China`s Forest City or Is It An Urban Jungle?

A city that eats pollution? Well, this is what Stefano Boeri Architetti (SBA) had in mind when they came up with the designs of the city which will sit along the Liujiang River in the mountainous region of Guangxi in southern China. However, these Architects are well known for their environmentally friendly designs so it is not a suprise they picked for this project.

What is on offer in this forest city?

The city will sit on 342 acres of land comprising of self-contained neighborhoods of homes, hotels, hospitals, schools and offices covered with 40,000 tress and over a million plants. The city is set to have over 30,000 residents.

The green city is also set to absorb 10,000 tons of carbon dioxide and over 57 tons of pollutants per year, produce 900 tons of oxygen decreasing air temperatures and also providing new habitats for the displaced wildlife.

Additional features of the forest city include, all the buildings` power needs will be met by Solar energy with geo-thermal energy utilised to power air conditioning systems in the building. Residents will move around by means of Electric rails and vehicles.

Construction is already underway and completion is slated for the year 2020.
