The world has seen increase in clean energy consumption with solar being in the forefront of replacing the traditional methods of Electrical Power generation. Governments and organisations have continued to invest in such initiatives, seeing mega projects being unveiled now and then to curb the ever controversial matter of climate change. Earlier on this month saw the Chinese unveil a 40MW floating solar power generation plant. Is it the largest solar power plant in the world?
The Chinese unveiled the biggest floating Solar power plant which is set to generate over 40MW of Electricity capable of powering over 15,000 homes.
What Are some of the Largest power plants in the world?
1. Kurnool Ultra Mega Solar Park, India - This was unveiled earlier on this year in India and it generates over 1000MW of power into the grid. It spreads over 5800 acres of land and it cost $1 billion to construct.2. Longyangxia Dam Solar Park, Qinghai - The solar power plant generates over 850MW of solar energy into the grid. The power plant was costructed from 2013 at a cost of $937 spreading over 2400 acres of land.
3. Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park in Dubai - This currently under construction and is being done in phases through to 2020. The first phase A will generate 200MW and will be completed in April 2019. Once complete the plant will have a total installed capacity of 800MW at a cost of $14 billion.
4. Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Park, India - This will be completed in 2022 and is set to generate 750MWA and make a major contribution to India`s ambitious programme of generating over 100GW by the year 2022.
5. Solar Star Projects, California - This covers a total area of 3230 acres and is set to generate 579MW of power and is set to have more than 1.7 million mon-crystalline solar panels.
